The Commission on Geoscience Education, Training and Technology Transfer (COGE), in collaboration with the International Geoscience Education Organisation (IGEO) is currently undertaking a survey of geoscience education across the world in order to:
- identify countries in which pilot Earth Science educational initiatives supported by the International Union of Geological Scientists (IUGS), IGEO and others, are most likely to be successful
- identify Earth Science outreach initiatives that have been successful – with a view to promoting these elsewhere in the future
- provide benchmarks of good practice in the Earth science content of the curriculum, for different countries/regions
If you would like to contribute to the questionnaire survey on behalf of your country, please download the questionnaire from here [word document] and submit it to Ian Clark at the address at the foot of the questionnaire.
The findings of the survey will be disseminated at the forthcoming IGEO international conference, GeoSciEd V, 18th – 21st September 2006 in Germany and at the 33rd International Geological Congress in Norway, 5th – 14th August, 2008
The Commission intends to use the examples of good practice it identifies in educational and outreach initiatives as the basis of pilot projects in countries where such projects are likely to be successful during the forthcoming International Year of Planet Earth in 2008.
